ANTHONY KIENDL: CURATOR 5DE EDITIE CONTOUR (20.08.11>16.10.11)
De data en de curator voor Contour 2011 liggen vast. De 5 de Biënnale voor Bewegend Beeld loopt van zaterdag 20 augustus tot zondag 16 oktober. Curator Anthony Kiendl (CAN) zorgt voor de artistieke invulling. De Canadees is directeur is van het Plug In Instituut voor Hedendaagse Kunst in Winnipeg (CAN). Hij doceert ook architectuur aan de University of Manitoba.
Onder de werktitel ‘Sound and Vision: Beyond Reason’ onderzoekt Kiendl de verbanden tussen geluid, beeld en sociale veranderingen. Daarbij speelt rockmuziek een grote rol.
De New Yorkse artiest Dan Graham vormde een belangrijke inspiratiebron voor de curator.
Graham maakte de beroemde film ‘Rock My Religion’ (1982-1984),
waarin hij rockmuziek als een cultureel fenomeen onderzoekt.
Hoe fungeert populaire muziek als alternatief communicatiemiddel, voorbij de rede?

CONTOUR EN EUROPA LANCEREN 'MOVING STORIES' IN 2010
Het is nog wachten tot volgend jaar op de volgende Biënnale voor Bewegend Beeld... Maar Contour zit ondertussen niet stil. In 2010 neemt het de coördinatie op zich van ʻMoving Storiesʼ, een internationaal samenwerkingsproject met steun van de Europese Unie. Met partners uit Italië, Oostenrijk, Duitsland, Frankrijk en Polen produceert Contour 6 nieuwe kunstwerken. Ze vertellen elk op hun eigen manier een verhaal met bewegend beeld. Contour selecteerde de jonge, Belgische kunstenaar Nicolas Provost.
EEN GESLAAGD CONTOUR 2009

Zowel het publiek als de pers reageerde erg positief op de 4de Biënnale voor Bewegend Beeld van curator Katerina Gregos. ANTHONY KIENDL: CURATOR OF THE 5th EDITION OF CONTOUR (20.08.11>16.10.11)
Both the dates and the curator for Contour 2011 have now been decided. The 5 th Biennial of Moving Image will take place from Saturday, August 20 through Sunday, October 16.
Curator Anthony Kiendl (CAN) will be responsible for the artistic content. Kiendl is currently the director of the Plug In Institute for Contemporary Art in Winnipeg (CAN). He also teaches architecture at the University of Manitoba. With the working title ‘Sound and Vision: Beyond Reason’, Kiendl aims to examine the links between sound, image and social change. In this research, rock music plays an integral role.
New York artist Dan Graham is an important source of inspiration, in this respect. Graham made his seminal film ‘Rock My Religion’ (1982-1984), in which he examines rock as a cultural phenomenon.
How does popular music function as an alternative means of communication – beyond reason?

CONTOUR IN 2010: ‘MOVING STORIES’ IN EUROPE
For the next Biennial of Moving Image, we have to wait until next year... But Contour is busy as ever. In 2010, it will coordinate ‘Moving Stories’, an international co-operation project supported by the European Union. With partners from Italy, Austria, Germany, France and Poland, Contour will produce 6 new works of art. They will all recount a moving image story – each in its own way. For this project, Contour selected the upcoming Belgian artist Nicolas Provost.
CONTOUR 2009: A SUCCESS
We wish you a fantastic 2010! Contour looks back at 2009 with satisfaction. Not only the public, but also the press reacted very positively to the 4th Biennial of Moving Image, curated by Katerina Gregos. A lot of praising statements in amongst others NRC Handelsblad, Focus Knack, Flash Art, Kunstbeeld and De Standaard attest to this.
