Contour bereidt momenteel volop de volgende biënnale voor (24.08 – 03.11.2013), maar ondertussen is de curator van Contour 2015 al aangesteld. De in Brussel gevestigde Italiaan Nicola Setari zal voor de artistieke invulling zorgen van de 7de Biënnale voor Bewegend Beeld.
Setari (1978) is onderzoeker, curator en auteur. Hij was onder meer betrokken bij het artistieke en educatieve luik van dOCUMENTA (13) in 2012 en werkte er mee aan de publicaties en de catalogus ‘The Logbook’ (volume 2/3).
Tussen 2006 en 2009 was de Italiaan hoofdredacteur van het multidisciplinaire kunsttijdschrift ‘Janus’. In 2010 en 2011 was hij co-curator van het Visionary Africa-platform van BOZAR in Brussel en redacteur voor de publicatie ‘David Adjaye’s GEO-graphics: A Map of Art Practices in Africa, Past and Present’ (BOZAR Books, Silvana Editoriale, 2010).
In 2012 was Setari co-curator van ‘Free Associations’. Deze tentoonstelling presenteerde een verzameling van veertien onafhankelijke Italiaanse kunstruimtes en kunstmagazines in La Maison Rouge – Fondation Antoine de Galbert in Parijs. Recent was hij ook co-curator van ‘Via the Virtual’, een tentoonstelling van het Cultuurcentrum Strombeek en het Gentse SMAK over de impact van het digitale tijdperk op schilderkunst vanaf de jaren negentig.
Setari doceert Visuele Antropologie aan de Nieuwe Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Milaan. Hij is bovendien secretaris-generaal van de Dena Foundation voor Hedendaagse Kunst in Parijs. Hij verricht onderzoek binnen het veld van de visuele cultuur en mediastudies en behaalde een doctoraat aan de IUAV Universiteit van Venetië over Geschiedenis van de Architectuur en Kunstwetenschappen. Setari publiceert regelmatig in het tijdschrijft ‘Medium’ en schreef al voor verscheidene catalogi artikels over gerenommeerde kunstenaars.
De curator woont en werkt in Brussel en Parijs.

While Contour currently prepares for this year’s biennial (24.08 – 03.11.2013), the curator for Contour 2015 has already been appointed. The Brussels-based Italian curator Nicola Setari will take care of the artistic content of the 7th Biennial of Moving Image.
Setari (1978) is a researcher, curator and editor. He was an agent of dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, contributing to the artistic and educational programme. He also co-edited volume 2/3 of the catalogue of dOCUMENTA (13) – ‘The Logbook’ (Hatje and Kantz, 2012).
Between 2006 and 2009, he was editor in chief and publisher of the cross-disciplinary art magazine ‘Janus’. In 2010 and 2011, he was co-curator of the Visionary Africa platform for the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels and co-editor of ‘David Adjaye’s GEO-graphics: A Map of Art Practices in Africa, Past and Present’ (BOZAR Books, Silvana Editoriale, 2010).
In 2012 he was co-curator of the exhibition ‘Free Associations’, which gathered fourteen independent Italian art magazines and art spaces at La Maison Rouge – Fondation Antoine de Galbert in Paris. More recently, he was co-curator of ‘Via the Virtual’, which focused on the impact of the digital age on painting since the nineties, organised by the Cultural Centre in Strombeek, in partnership with the SMAK Museum in Ghent.
Setari is a professor of Visual Anthropology at the New Academy for Fine Arts in Milan and is also Secretary-General of the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art in Paris. His fields of research are visual culture and media studies, with a focus on contemporary iconoclasm. He regularly contributes to the journal ‘Medium’ and has written various catalogue essays on renowned artists. He holds a PhD in the History of Architecture and Art Sciences (IUAV University Venice).
The curator works and lives in Brussels.
